| I don’t know
what one can understand from this picture, but, believe me, here we are
in the heart of Guimard’s most ambitious project: an entire district designed
with a personal and uniform style. Everything seems to me as if it was sculpted
in marble, we almost can’t see the seam between the stones of the facade
that encompass all the buildings. Sumptuous the movement of the facades,
nice the upper corner of the attics shaped like clarissa hoods, interesting
the front door porches, that are quite copied from flamboyant gothic ones
(on the right). As always, it’s amazing the shape and diversity among windows
and doors.
At this point I must admit that , after a few of his works, I was quite "bored" by Guimard. He is so good at mastering the carved stone which he uses to sculpt the facades of his houses. But, at last, we were just a few yards away from the craziness of the Castel Béranger.. |
