Name Synagogue
Address Rue du Pavée, 10 Paris IV, M° St. Paul
Author Hector Guimard
Year 1913
Guimard’s Synagogue is built in the middle of the old Jewish ghetto, near the Marais, is a real surprise. Quite small, surrounded by other buildings, with a concave facade, used to enlarge the facade itself, and to welcome the incoming people, the Synagogue looks very much like an ordinary building. But what give its function away is the entrance (I know, I know, you can’t see it, it’s in the shadow...).The windows are narrow and slender, and remind us of the usual Guimard only in the curved upper-side.The facade itself is simply, but effectively, wavy.
